If you are missing one or more of your teeth, you may want to consider asking a dentist if dental implants are suitable for you. They work by attaching artificial teeth to the jawbone. Dental implants provide a more natural tooth replacement, and we can work very closely with our in-house lab technician to get you the perfect match.
In order to benefit the most from dental implants, you must be in generally good health and have a healthy jawbone which is fully developed. It is vital that you have healthy gums and jawbone in order for the implants to be supported.
Implants are made of titanium and serve as an artificial replacement for the root of a missing tooth. Because they are made of titanium, it will not cause any adverse reactions when attached to the gum tissue and jawbone. The crown (artificial tooth) is then placed onto the implant post. You can discuss any worries or concerns you have with our specialists, who will put you at ease and make sure you understand all parts of the procedure.
Firstly, the implant is placed in your jaw and covered with gum tissue. You will then wait an average of three to six months for the implant to fully integrate into the jawbone.
Once the implant has integrated, your dentist will then attach the post to the implant. The gum tissue can then grow around it healthily. The post serves as the anchor for the replacement tooth.
Lastly, the crown is attached to the implant post. The crown is the artificial tooth that our lab technician has created. The implant will be hand-glazed and colour matched to your liking. You can find out more about the in-house laboratory here.
The answer is no. Most dental implants procedures are generally undertaken with local anaesthetic. For our more nervous patients, we can offer an IV sedation option should it help put your mind at ease. You can find out more about our sedation providers here.
No, you will not need to take time off work for your surgery. Most people generally are well enough to continue as normal after a dental implant. All we ask if that you follow a soft diet for the first few days and slowly build up to eating more solid foods.
One of the benefits of having your dental implants at Bow Lane is the fact that we have an in-house laboratory, where you can work face-to-face with our lab technician Richard. Richard can sit down with you and make sure the replacement tooth is the perfect match for you.
As well as this, not all dentists provide dental implant services, as you need an additional master’s degree in dental implantology.
Our specialists at Bow Lane have the skills needed to provide you with a high-quality and professional service with the best after-care.
