How often do i need to see a dental hygienist?
There isn’t just one answer to this question - it depends on your oral health and risk levels.
We recommend that most patients visit every six months, in between their regular dental check-ups.You may need to visit more frequently if:
You have gum disease – patients with active gum disease need monitoring and more frequent treatment to keep their condition under control, so will usually need to see a hygienist every three months or so.
You have bad breath – most people, at some point or other, will experience bad breath. It can usually be resolved by sticking to a good at-home oral hygiene routine (brushing and flossing twice every day) but if the problem persists, you may need to see a hygienist so that they can investigate, diagnose and treat it.
You smoke – smokers are more at risk of developing oral infections, which is why if you’re a regular heavy smoker, you need to see a hygienist more frequently to identify any causes for concern.
You’re currently pregnant – all the hormone changes that occur during pregnancy can affect your oral health and it’s common for pregnant women to experience problems like red, inflamed, and/or bleeding gums. It’s recommended that you visit the hygienist more frequently during pregnancy to keep an eye on these issues.
What are the benefits of seeing a dental hygienist in london?
There are many advantages to seeing a dental hygienist regularly.
Not only will frequent visits to a hygienist improve your gum health and banish bad breath, but it will also help to boost your smile and confidence.
Your dental hygienist will perform a simple scale and polish to eliminate plaque build-ups on the surfaces of the teeth and around the gum line, and offer advice on how to maintain your oral health at home. When your oral health is on top, so is your self-esteem.
As well as helping you feel better about showing off your smile, attending regular appointments with a hygienist will also reduce your risk of developing conditions such as gum disease, so you won’t need to see your dentist as regularly if your oral health is in check.
